Roll-over protective structure (ROPS) is designed for operation safety
Reflective ROPS strips for better tractor visibility
Key switch interlock prevents bypass starting
Visual power take-off (PTO) warning light alerts operator when either mid or rear PTO is running
Reverse implement option (RIO) for safe mid-PTO operation*
Placing the transmission in neutral and setting the park brake allows operator to run rear PTO safely when off the tractor seat
Turn signal and flashing warning lights operate according to ASAE S279.10 standard
Taillights for road transport
POWERFUL JOHN DEERE ENGINE
The turbocharged John Deere PowerTech™ diesel engine has a high torque reserve that provides plenty of power under heavy load.
This 2.4 L 4-cylinder engine features lower levels of exhaust emissions and reduced noise levels. It meets EPA Interim Tier 4 emission standards.
Key features of the engine are:
Lower rated speed for 540 rpm PTO operation means better fuel economy, less noise and vibration, and longer overall engine life
Cast-in-block cylinder design for good cooling and long life
Hydraulic lifters are quieter and require no adjustment
Heavy-duty crankshaft provides more bearing surface area for added durability
Direct fuel injection
Improves starting
Injects fuel directly on top of pistons for more efficient combustion
Develops more horsepower per gallon of fuel
Electronic fuel injection
Engine oil cooler
Electric solenoid shuts fuel supply off immediately when key is turned off

Steering cosole
Hydrostatic power steering:
Makes it easy to turn unit, for less operator fatigue
Allows quick, two turns lock-to-lock for excellent productivity
Heads-up indicator lights are always visible to the operator for easy monitoring.
Console information/warning lights include the following:
Battery discharge light
Engine oil pressure
Engine coolant temperature
Hydraulic oil over temperature
Air preheater
Lights
Material collection system (MCS) blower
Power take-off (PTO) operation indication
Maneuverability
Tail-follows-the-trail trimming with the 72-in. mower decks. Steered wheels (tail) stay within the path (trail) cut by the mower deck, allowing maneuverability without the rear of the machine contacting mowing obstacles.
Maneuverability:
Turn radius of 13 in.
Uncut circle of 28 in. with a 72-in. 7-Iron™ mower deck
Deck offset and pulled rearward
Two-pedal foot controls
Two-pedal foot controls (patented):
Allows operator to select speed and direction with just a touch of the toe
Keeps both hands free for steering and operating controls
Provides stopping power to both drive wheels
Disengages the PTO
Disengages optional cruise control
Used also for a parking brake
Differential lock:
Locks both the front drive wheels together for added traction
Easily engaged with the left foot
Individual turn-assist brakes:
Provide additional traction when operating on hillsides
Ideal for tight trimming situations
Work in conjunction with hydrostatic foot controls to stop or slow unit for turns
4WD lever
4WD lever:
Allows operator to select between on-demand or full-time four-wheel drive while on the go
Cruise control (optional)
Beneficial when mowing open areas or when transporting
Hydraulic weight transfer (optional)
Allows transferring the weight of the attachment to traction unit drive wheels for improved traction
Adjustable from full-off to full-on while on the go, to allow operator to react quickly to changing traction needs
Safety starting system
The 1400 Series II Front Mowers have an operator-presence system.
This means to start the engine the following conditions must be met:
Master brake must be depressed or the park brake locked; the hydrostatic foot controls will then be in the neutral position.
PTO must be disengaged.
Operator must be in the seat if the parking brake is not locked.
Ignition key must be used.
In addition, once the engine is running, an interlock automatically shuts the engine and PTO off if the operator leaves the seat. To keep the engine running, the operator must disengage the PTO and set the parking brake before dismounting.
